Things To Know

If you do NOT already have health coverage, the Illinois Health Exchange is a new way to explore different options that best fit your needs.

The Open Enrollment Period is from November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015.

Using the Illinois Health Exchange application will let you know if you can qualify for coverage in the Exchange or through Medicaid.

There are several different ways to apply:
• Online
• Phone
• Postal Mail
• In-person with the help of a trained assistor

Each health plan generally will offer comprehensive coverage including a core set of essential health benefits. These benefits include doctor visits, preventative care, maternity care, hospitalization, prescription drugs, etc.

The Exchange is available to everyone and offers plans from private insurance companies in the area where you live. You will be able to compare plans based on price, quality, benefits, and other features that are important to them.

Private health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to discriminate against individuals based on gender or pre-existing conditions, nor can they cap annual or life-time benifits.
